Audience

​

This 2 hour stand alone webinar is aimed at healthcare professionals that are new to managing COPD and are wanting an introduction to the topic.

​

This webinar will give a basic overview of:

​

• COPD in the UK and its impact

• The difference between a normal airway and a COPD airway

• The symptoms associated with COPD

• The pharmacology in COPD and the importance of inhaler technique and device choice

• Non pharmacological options: smoking cessation, pulmonary rehab, vaccination, identify comorbidities & supported self management

• The COPD guidelines

• The annual review: assessing and managing COPD

Learning Outcomes:

​

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

• Describe what COPD is and how it affects the lungs

• Recognise the common symptoms, risk factors and impact of COPD

• Identify the main inhaled therapies used in COPD and their purpose

• Understand the role of the 5 Fundamentals of COPD Care: smoking cessation, pulmonary rehabilitation, vaccinations, comorbidity management and supported self-management

• Recognise the signs of worsening COPD and when to optimise care or seek further assessment

• Understand the fundamentals of a structured COPD review

Throughout the webinar you will be able to contribute and ask questions using the ‘chat feature’. 

 

The webinar will be hosted via MS Teams The link will be sent out at least a week before the meeting.  You will need a good internet connection and a microphone and webcam ideally.

​

This introduction webinar can then be followed by the 6 week module for a more in depth course: Clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of COPD.
